any time an industry lobby says that this safety/environmental/security/regulatory thing will destroy their industry

that is as sure a sign as any that that legislation is sorely needed and will if implemented do what it should

economists: You have to keep wages low because you need to make sure consumers have affordable products.

Me, before I even knew about Marxism: aren't the workers and consumers mostly the same group of people?

economists: what?

"fun" fact: banks collected about 30 billion in overdraft fees in 2020. in other words: banks stole 30 billion dollars from people with no money during a pandemic.

mlb

It'd be cool if MLB had something like that, too, with the villain wanting to change an oppressive system and the protag thinking on it, but you can't build it in there because the villain is Hawkmoth, who doesn't want to change a system, instead he wants his wife back from the dead.

he couldn't care less for the system and how it is, he just wants his family back how it was, and Ladybug and Chat Noir started being Ladybug and Chat Noir after he started creating chaos to lure them out

tokyo ghoul

as much as people had to say about Tokyo Ghoul, I do like it and think it's well-done.
There's no "villains are the people who want to change an oppressive system and then get defeated" shit in there.
The villain who wanted to change the system was Eto, but as the story progressed, she was unveiled to have never been a genuine villain, and was defeated by the actual antagonist.
Our protagonist pretty much carried on her legacy, and achieved what she wanted.

I also like how Kimi was such a big role towards the end. She started off as one of the few people who understood ghouls, and she loved a ghoul.

She then disappeared for a big part and showed up again was one of Kanou's researchers, because she wanted his knowledge to help create that world where ghouls and humans could co-exist, because she loved a ghoul and wanted to be by his side without him having to live in fear of murder

now they live in co-existence. What happened was also fundamentally what Eto wanted;

Dragon Kaneki fucked up the world and society and gave it a reset. The CCG was ended, and science to understand ghouls and enable peace was started. +

+ off of the everlasting feud between ghouls and humans, and he furthered it's cause. He's not really an ally to anybody except himself and his ideals.
That's why he clashes with Eto, who wants a world where ghouls can live freely.

But Furuta's once said something (I don't think he really cared) that if you create a big enough enemy, both humans and ghouls will have to work together.
And he kinda did, by fucking up Kaneki like that.
Ghouls and humans had to work together+

+ when he started out, he didn't want to hurt anybody and just coexist, but he's now recognised that he has to fight to live, because the system he lives in will never listen to ghouls without them being threatening.

Essentially, I think Furuta was also right? Furuta essentially is just a rogue V puppet, he really just wanted to have Rize with him lol
But to get that, he fought with an oppressive organisation that profits+
